Uni-Y SMU receives University Student Life Award

For its excellence, proficiencies and contributions to student life, University-YMCA (Uni-Y) SMU will be one of three CCA clubs awarded the SMU Excellence in Student Life Award (Club) in the Student Leadership/Community Integration category by SMU.

In a message to students on  12 February 2015, Dr Ong Siow Heng, Dean of Students, SMU, said that the award winners’ “time, effort and contributions”  to their CCAs made life at school more than just a paper chase.

“Your CCA and out-of-classroom experiences will extend far beyond trophies and accolades to become invaluable lessons in life,” elaborated Dr Ong.

The SMU Excellence in Student Life Award (Club) is part of the University Student Life Awards, which was initiated in 2004 to honour exceptional students whose talents, dedication, achievements and compassion have demonstrated what it means to have a truly holistic university education.

The Awards Ceremony will be held on Friday, 13 March 2015 at the Mochtar Riady Auditorium where the respective Gold, Silver and Bronze award winners will be announced.

University-YMCA (Uni-Y) Singapore is the university service club of YMCA of Singapore. Uni-Y strives to make a difference in the community by creating positive social impact through community service and social enterprise programmes, and deliver holistic enrichment to its volunteers and members through personal and leadership development programmes. Uni-Y has student chapters in National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Singapore Management University (SMU).

In July 2014, for its exceptional humanitarian efforts and outstanding contribution in cultivating a spirit of volunteerism and leadership amongst the youth of Singapore, Uni-Y was conferred the Singapore Youth Award 2014, the nation’s highest accolade to honour exceptional young people who enrich the hearts and souls of the community and bring distinction to the nation.

In recognition of its strong community service culture which aims to inspire and provide opportunities for youths to be actively involved in the community, Uni-Y was awarded the Ten Accomplished Youth Organisations (TAYO) ASEAN Award in October 2014 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei.
