The 18th YMCA Charity Golf 2017 saw more than 140 avid golfers teeing off at Singapore Island Country Club on 5 May 2017 in support of volunteerism. The event drew strong support from corporates and individuals who contributed generously to the fundraising effort, helping to raise $302,000 for the YMCA-Lim Kim San Volunteers Programme.
Since 2000, the YMCA Charity Golf event has a staple in the fundraising calendar of YMCA of Singapore, providing golf enthusiasts and the business community the chance to bond over a game of golf while doing their part for charity.
“Over the past 18 years, the YMCA Charity Golf has raised significant funds which have been channeled to fund the YMCA-Lim Kim San Volunteers Programme. The success of our annual charity event is evident in the commitment and support from our partners in consistently achieving our fundraising goals year on year. Not only was the day about raising much needed funds to boost the Volunteers Programme’s ability of developing and recognising volunteers, and promoting corporate volunteerism, it was also a great opportunity to raise awareness on the work of our volunteers,” said Mr Eric Teng, President, YMCA of Singapore.
In 2016 alone, close to 10,000 YMCA volunteers devoted over 140,000 hours of their time to serve the local and overseas community, impacting the lives of over 19,000 beneficiaries across various programmes. Beyond Singapore, YMCA volunteers participate in the YMCA International Service Programmes to reach out to the less privileged communities through community development projects that focus on improving education, infrastructures, healthcare and capacity building, with an aim of empowering these communities.
Proceeds from the YMCA Charity Golf will go towards sustaining the YMCA-Lim Kim San Volunteers Programme which will allow YMCA to engage, groom and honour volunteers; to cultivate their talents and strengths, and enhance their ability to contribute to the community.
Mr Lim Swee Say, Minister for Manpower was the Guest-of-Honour at the post-tournament dinner and presented prizes to the winners of the Lim Kim San Team Challenge.
NTUC FairPrice Foundation Ltd is the Presenting Sponsor for the event.
