Never too old to bust some moves - senior citizens “Zumba” with Health Minister at Silver Fiesta 2013
YMCA of Singapore and Central Singapore Community Development Council (CDC) will be rallying some 200 elderly for a mass Zumba dance as part of Silver Fiesta 2013 from 14-15 November 2013 at Toa Payoh HDB Hub.
The two-day event aims to promote active ageing and create health
awareness amongst the elderly. Mr Gan Kim Yong, Minister for Health, will be
gracing the event. Besides giving a speech and touring the event activities and
exhibits, Mr Gan who is also Chairman of the Ministerial Committee on Ageing,
will also be participating in the ‘Zumba Gold!’ mass dance together with the
elderly.

YMCA Sports Day 2013
YMCA of Singapore organised its first Sports Day today at ITE College West for 39 beneficiaries from MINDS Clementi and Christian Outreach to the Handicapped Former national sprinter and 100 metres record holder, Mr C Kunalan graced the event as a Special Guest.

the Association to receive a token of appreciation from His Excellency
President Tony Tan at the President's Challenge 2013 Thank You Reception
yesterday evening at the Istana. The annual Citi-YMCA Youth For Causes
programme which YMCA of Singapore has been co-organising with Citi Singapore
has been an event of the President's Challenge since 2005. The programme
enables youth to embark on social entrepreneurship projects to raise funds and
awareness for charities of their choice.

YMCA honoured for good governance
YMCA of Singapore has won the Charity Governance Award 2013 in the Large Charities category.
At the Awards Ceremony held on 18 October at
the Novotel Clarke Quay, Mr Stephen Loh, President, YMCA of Singapore
and Ms Lynette Yeo, Assistant General Secretary, Social Enterprises
represented YMCA to receive the winner's plaque and a cheque for $10,000
from the Guest-of-Honour Mr Lawrence Wong, Acting Minister for Culture,
Community and Youth.

YMCA raises over $420,000 at the YMCA Appeal Gala Dinner 2013
On 2 October 2013, YMCA of Singapore raised over $420,000 at its biggest fundraising event for the year, the YMCA Appeal Gala Dinner. Mr Phillip Tan, Chairman, Community Chest graced the event as the Guest-of-Honour.
The funds raised will go towards the YMCA Community Service Programmes, YMCA Project Bridge and YMCA FACES (Financial Assistance and Capability for Employment Scheme). Some 200 guests including philanthropists and corporate chieftains attended the event which raised funds through the sale of tables, seats, raffle draw tickets and a silent auction.

Runaway Youth Transformed By Vocational Training When
When Ho Wenjie was just 14, he realised that he had to improve himself to secure a better future. Struggling to survive on the meagre income from working odd jobs, he had left school the previous year and ran away from home.
Upon a recommendation from his ex-school’s counsellor, Wenjie joined the Vocational and Soft Skills Programme (VaSSP) offered by YMCA Project Bridge in October 2011 and found his passion in life – baking.

ITE Student Raises $15,000 for Charity
From May to September 2013, 20 year-old Chien Yong Qiang led a team of volunteers to raise $15,000 for their chosen charity, HCA Hospice Care.
Yong Qiang, a final year Higher Nitec in Information Technology student at ITE College West, mobilised volunteers to sell titbits, drinks and umbrellas, and organised various fund-raising activities.

YMCA School Celebrated 100 Years of Education
YMCA School turned 100 this year. The highlight of the School’s celebrations was an Anniversary Dinner on Wednesday, 31 July 2013 at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel where over 200 students and guests including YMCA Board members, YMCA Education Committee members, YMCA Education Centre Academic and Exam Board members, former students and former staff gathered for an evening of fellowship over food and performances.
