Over 11,000 youth volunteers raise awareness for social causes; reach out to 1.7 million


Participating teams in the Citi-YMCA Youth For Causes mobilised over 11,000 volunteers – an increase of 2,500 from 2013 – and reached out to 1.7 million people to raise awareness for the social causes they are championing, affirming that youth volunteerism is on the rise in Singapore. Teams also raised a record of over $900,000 in funds, 20% more than the previous year.

Uni-Y Singapore wins ASEAN youth award


In recognition of its strong community service culture which aims to inspire and provide opportunities for youths to be actively involved in the community, Uni-Y Singapore was awarded the Ten Accomplished Youth Organisations (TAYO) ASEAN Award on 9 October 2014 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. The awards ceremony was graced by The Honourable Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Seri Setia Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports for Brunei who presented the awards.

Y STARS steal hearts with dazzling performance at YMCA fundraiser


With sparkling energy and glittering smiles, the Y STARS (YMCA Special Talents, Arts and Recreation Society) dazzled and charmed their way into the hearts of guests at the YMCA Giving Gala 2014 held on 8 October 2014 at the Fullerton Hotel. Y STARS comprises youths with Down’s Syndrome who possess unique gifts in dance and performing arts. Their innate passion for their craft shine through in their performances, bringing smiles and touching the hearts of others. The Y STARS have actively participated and performed in various YMCA events including the annual YMCA Proms @ the Park.

YMCA of Singapore receives $15,000 donation from PCF


YMCA of Singapore conveys its heartfelt appreciation for the PAP Community Foundation's (PCF) donation of $15,000 on 28 September 2014. Health Minister Mr Gan Kim Yong presented the cheque to Mr Stephen Loh, President, YMCA of Singapore, in a ceremony held at Universal Studios, Resorts World Sentosa. The ceremony  was witnessed by Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong.

YMCA Toastmasters Club: Mr Chew Ban Seng and Mr Ernest Chen elected to District Governor and Lt Governor of Toastmasters International respectively


YMCA of Singapore is pleased to share that Mr Chew Ban Seng (right) and Mr Ernest Chen (left) of YMCA Toastmasters Club were respectively elected District Governor and Lieutenant Governor Marketing of Toastmasters International, District 80 (comprising Singapore), for the term 1 July 2014 – 30 June 2015. Mr Chew will exercise direct oversight and management of the district’s day-to-day operations, finances, and human resources, and facilitate cooperation between district leadership teams to fulfil the district mission while supporting officer development.  For Mr Chen, he will be responsible  for marketing, club-building, retention and outreach efforts within the district.

University YMCA (Uni-Y) Singapore wins Singapore Youth Award 2014

For its exceptional humanitarian efforts and outstanding contribution in cultivating a spirit of volunteerism and leadership amongst the youth of Singapore, University-YMCA Singapore (Uni-Y) was conferred the Singapore Youth Award 2014, the nation’s highest accolade to honour exceptional young people who enrich the hearts and souls of the community and bring distinction to the nation.

Citi-YMCA Youth For Causes 2014 Official Launch


Citi-YMCA Youth For Causes (YFC), an annual social entrepreneurship and youth development programme jointly organised by YMCA of Singapore and Citi Singapore, will be launched on Thursday 22 May 2014, with Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Defence gracing the event as the Guest of Honour. 100 teams of four youths each will raise funds for their chosen voluntary welfare organisation (VWO) for the next 15 weeks till 7 September 2014.

Over $388,000 raised at the 15th YMCA Charity Golf to champion volunteerism


 

More than $388,000 was raised for the YMCA-Lim Kim San Volunteers Programme through the 15th YMCA Charity Golf to boost the Programme's ability of developing and recognising volunteers, and promoting corporate volunteerism. The fund-raising golf event was held at Sentosa Golf Club from 23-24 April 2014.
