Intergenerational bonding at YMCA Silver Fiesta 2017

Organised over two days from 9 to 10 November 2017 at Toa Payoh HDB Hub, the YMCA Silver Fiesta 2017 saw over 1,500 elderly folks from 34 Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs) and the public come together for two days of fun.

Some 700 youths and corporate volunteers provided companionship and served as volunteers as they interacted with the elderly and assisted with the event.

The youth volunteers were not only exposed to intergenerational bonding, they were also empowered to become advocates in serving the Silver Community and promote active ageing among the elderly through sports, fitness and dance activities. Mr Amrin Amin, Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Health graced the event as the guest-of-honour.

Highlights of the event include:

• Chair workout
• Diabolo performance
• Chinese opera
• Kpop dance

The chair workout sessions incorporated functional exercises which improved the seniors’ ability to complete daily activities. By working out together in the company of youth volunteers, the elderly bonded with both the young, their friends and met other like-minded individuals, all while motivating one another in a fun environment.

We would like to thank the following partners for supporting us in this event:
